Lightweights Antonio McKee vs. Jacob Volkmann
This fight went to a split decision with Volkmann winning 29-28 28-29, 29-28
Welterweights Greg Soto vs. Daniel Roberts
The second fight of the evening was the first one I was able to see. Soto comes out as the aggressor and lands some solid early shots in on Roberts. Roberts gets the fight to the ground and his wrestling skills begin to control Soto. Soto is successful at blocking some of the shots of Roberts from below, but leaves an opening. Roberts grabs a hold of Soto and attempts a Kimura. After rolling to try and escape, Soto taps with his arm in a very bad spot at the 3:45 mark of the first round.
Featherweights Mike Brown vs. Diego Nunes
The first round was distinctly for Mike Brown. He delivered several devastating knees to Nunes and at one point was said to have hit Nunes with 17 consecutive unanswered knees. Brown wins this round.
Mike Brown comes out and delivers some several more solid shots before Nunes come back with a couple of kicks including a spinning heel kick. Brown’s damage has now completely swollen shut Nunes left eye but while he is inside trying to take advantage of the eye, he remains well within the kicking zone of Nunes. Nunes lands several devastating kicks that seem to take a lot of steam out of Mike Brown. I give Nunes this round and it appears as if Nunes swollen eye and all is in control.
The third round begins with Nunes landing several more kicks. Brown goes for a takedown and gets it and begins to take knees to the body and legs. Brown seems to take control of this round. Nunes gets Brown into a Thai clinch and lands some very nice knees, but with about thirty seconds to go, Brown takes Nunes down in what may have been the deciding move of this fight. Brown wins this round.
29-28 Nunes, 29-28 Brown, 29-28 Nunes Nunes wins by split decision.
Middleweight Brad Tavares vs. Phil Baroni
Baroni and Tavares come out early looking to both stand and bang. Baroni lands a big left hook that takes Tavares to the ground. Tavares is able to withstand the early barrage and seems to regain his senses. Tavares. Baroni lands a “low blow” knee that stops action for a brief moment. After the lowblow, Tavares lands a massive head kick and follows it with a big right and some more monster shots. Baroni is out on his feet and Josh Rosenthals finally stops the fight at the 4:20 mark of the first round.
Featherweight Dustin Poirier vs., Josh Grispi
This bout starts off with the feeling of a kickboxing contest, with both guys trying to land big kicks. After some . Poirier lands a couple of monster inside leg kicks and takes Grispi to the ground. He never follows him to the ground, always allowing Grispi to get up. Poirier begins to land shot after shot and is doing some major damage to Grispi. Poirier gets Grispi to the ground, but does not look as comfortable on the ground as he did on his feet. Poirier wins this round.
Round two begins with Grispi trying to bounce back and be more aggressive, but not a lot of action early. Poirier lands a couple more shots and Grispi goes to the ground. Poirier follows him to the ground and after a couple of unsuccessful submission attempts, Poirier gets back to his feet and regains control of the fight. Poirier lands some big knees in the Thai clinch and takes Grispi to the ground again. Grispi almost gets a triangle on Poirier but is unsuccessful and the guys get back to their feet. Poirier lands some more kicks and solid punches right before the bell and Mazagatti was looking to step in and potentially stop the fight when the bell sounds. Poirier wins this one also.
The third round begins with Poirier kicking Grispi yet again. Poirier is controlling the fight and is continuing to land whatever he wants whenever he wants. With about a minute to go in the fight, Grispi gets on top of Poirier but is unable to land anything substantial. Poirier wins this round and should be a 30-27 winner against a guy that was supposed to fight Jose Aldo for the title tonight before Aldo’s injury.
Winner by unanimous decision 30-27, Dustin Poirier
Lightweight Jeremy Stephens vs. Marcus Davis
The fight begins with both guys trying to feel each other out. A couple of jabs from Davis land and Stephens has been unable to land anything solid early on Davis. Davis is able to get Stephens to the ground about half way thru round one. After some posturing, Stephens is able to get back to his feet. After some more posturing, Davis lands a big shot on Stephens that hurts him. Instead of going in for the finish, Davis goes in and ties up with him. The round ends with both guys up against the cage with Stephens appearing to have recovered. Davis wins the first round.
Round two begins with both guys feeling each other out. They engage each other briefly throughout the early parts of the round. Davis is almost exclusively going right to stay away from the powerful left of Stevens. Marcus Davis attempts an arm bar, but while he does Stephens takes him down. The fight goes to the ground and neither guys us clearly able to get the upper hand.
The third round begins with Stephens pushing the pace. Stephens seems to be looking for the big knockout punch, but Davis also senses this. Stephens attempts a lackluster takedown that is easily avoided by Davis. As Davis is avoiding everything, Stephens lands a monster right that knocks Davis out immediately. Stephens follows it up with a punch for good measure and Davis is clearly out. Stephens is definitely the frontrunner for knock out of the night right now. 2:33 in the third round Stephens wins by knockout.
MAIN CARD
Lightweight Takanori Gomi vs. Clay Guida
The first fight on the main card with a very loud lets go Guida chant from the crowd. Both guys throw some early blows but not much is landing. Guida lands a big head kick on Gomi and a couple of punches. Guida’s constant movement seems to be making it very challenging for Gomi to measure and land his shots. The crowd begins to get a bit restless with some of the inaction during the middle parts of the round. After an exchange in the center of the ring, Guida gets Gomi to the ground and gains control on top. Guida wins the first round.
Round two begins with both guys throwing big shots again and landing nothing. Gomi takes Guida down and lands a couple of shots but Guida is able to get up without suffering any major damage. Both guys throw some more shots without any major damage until Guida hurts Gomi a little at the 1:51 mark. Guida gets Gomi to the ground again Guida gets on top in half guard, grabs Gomi’s neck and rolls over. Gomi taps rather quickly at the 4:27 mark of the first round from a guillotine choke.
Welterweights Dong Hyun Kim vs. Nate Diaz
The fight begins with Dong coming out with a kick. Nate follows with his own kick and an inside leg kick. Nate goes in with a couple punches backing Dong up against the cage, but Dong comes back and takes Nate to the ground. Dong lands a big punch from top and then takes side control. Nate tries several leg submission holds from below to no avail, and the round ends with both guys on their feet. Dong wins the opening round.
Round two starts off with Dong attempting a couple of kicks and Nate trying to land some punches. Dong is able to get Nate to the ground again and has control from on top. Dong takes a few shots from Nate but lands some ones that do more damage. Nate gives up his back , but reverses and takes Dong’s back and tries and fails at a choke. This round ends with both guys on their feet swinging away. Dong is up 2-0 in my eyes.
Round three begins withNate knowing he needs to do something. Nate is able to get Dong to the ground early on but Dong is quickly back to his feet. Diaz kicks Dong and Dong goes to the ground and the ref stops the fight briefly, thinking it was to the back of the head. Nate is able to get Dong to the ground again, but Dong ends up on top and in control yet again. Dong now has Nate’s back. They get back to their feet and Nate now has control, landing a nice kick to the head and several punches. Nate lands some more punches, seeming to daze Dong, but Dong survives the round. 29-28 Dong in my eyes.
29-28 on all three cards for Dong Hyun Kim
Light Heavyweight “Swing” Thiago Silva vs. Brandon Vera
This fight starts out with both guys swinging and kicking very aggressively. Vera seems to be wanting to counter Silva’s punches with kicks to the body. Silva is able to get Vera to the ground rather easily and lands some blows on Vera. After a lot of nothing, Silva goes into side control and lands some nice elbows and punches. Vera is unable to escape to control of Silva. A lone leg bar attempt by both competitors ends the round with Silva on top of Vera. After the round, Silva taunts Vera a bit and the ref has to step in and separate them. Round 1 to Silva.
The second round begins with both guys throwing everything at each other at a pace that in no way can be kept for the entire round. Silva rather easily yet again takes Vera to the ground. Vera tries and lands a few elbows from below but Silva maintains control. While Silva had been able to control Vera for much of the fight, neither guy has dome much damage to the other yet. Silva lands some solid punches to the head of Vera, yet lays on top of Vera to end the round. Another round to Silva.
The third and final round begins with Silva landing a kick and Vera landing one that takes Silva down. Vera taunts Silva a bit and then Silva leans on Vera before taking his back and taking Vera to the ground. The crowd has been very vocal in their displeasure of how this fight has proceeded without a lot of action. Silva seems to be doing just enough to keep the ref from standing the fight. Silva finally starts throwing some punches and taught Vera over and over, tapping him on the back, then throwing punches. Silva lays on Vera and the round ends. Silva skips away from the corner. It does appear as if Silva may have broken Vera’s nose at some point of the fight. Another round for Silva.
30-27, 30-27, 30-26 Unanimous decision for Thiago Silva
Middleweights Brian Stann vs. Chris Leben
Dana White made the comment prior to the evening’s event that he thought this would be a stand and bang fight, with not a lot of takedown attempts. We get a few leg kicks to start things off from both guys in the beginning minute. We some a light exchange of blows and both guys lean on each other. Stann lands a couple of good shots and a monster right hook and Leben goes down, but Stan doesn’t put him away. Leben gets back to his feet and Stann quickly drops him again this time with a knee. Leben up yet again and Stann drops him once more and Stann punishes Leben in a manner I cannot remember seeing Leben receive. The fight is stopped at 3:37 in the first round.

Maynard is hammering Edgar and the official looks very close to stopping the action on several occasions. Maynard drops Edgar for a third and fourth time. Edgar lands one shot to Maynard but Gray has clearly dominated this round. 97 shots landed by Maynard in the fight.
Round two starts with Edgar trying a head kick. Is this going to be like Lesnar-Carwin where Carwin blew it out in round one and had nothing left in round two? Edgar seems to be the aggressor in this round looking to take the fight to Gray. After a bit of feeling out, Edgar lands a big right hook and an inside leg kick. After some more posturing, Edgar with a massive takedown of Maynard. The guys trade some more blows , Maynard misses on a takedown, and Edgar lands a nice hook. Edgar wins that round.

Edgar is trying to get Maynard’s back. The guys shortly end up back on their feet and Edgar lands a nice right to the side of Maynard’s head. Maynard lands a couple nice jabs on Edgar. After some more nice blows, Edgar takes Maynard into the cage briefly. Some more posturing by both guys with each landing some nice shots. Another close round that I give to the champ.
The final round of the Title fight begins Maynard landing a few nice jabs. Edgar lands a nice leg kick. Both guys land some nice combination shots on each other and Maynard’s take down attempt is pushed off and Edgar lands a nice knee. Both guys continue to land some nice shots on each other. Both guys finish the round with a flurry, but I give that round to Maynard. I have the fight 3-2 Edgar….
48-46 Maynard, 48-46 Edgar , 47-47 Fight is a Draw.
