As an outsider, it seems as if Tiger Woods is at a crossroads in his life. Golf has always seemed to be priority #1 in his life, yet with all of the unrest in his personal life since November, one can not help but wonder how much all of those things are really affecting him and his game. A couple of stories broke this week about Tiger admitting to sleeping with 121 women, and Elin looking for a $500 Million dollar divorce settlement. One of Tiger’s alleged mistresses was in town working this weekend at a local club. With all of these things supposedly going on, Tiger admitting he is still going through therapy, when does he have time to practice and how focused can he be on his golf game right now? Tiger has said his family is his number one priority now, but they appear to be in Sweden currently. Tiger’s game, much like his private life, is not where he wants or needs them to be. I am not certain that he can work on improving both at the same time. It will be interesting to see over the next few months if there is resolution in the personal or professional life first. Who knows, maybe neither will be and this may pull the #1 player into a tailspin that he has trouble recovering from for a while.
Well, if someone had been willing to bet you Wednesday afternoon that Tiger Woods, the World’s # 1 golfer for now, would miss the cut this weekend at Quail Hollow, most of us would have taken that bet. If the same guy had come to you and was willing to bet you your house that Tiger would miss the cut by 8 strokes, well, I would be homeless tonight. Back-to-back DOUBLE bogeys on fourteen and fifteen today for only the 3rd time in his career and a round of 79 gave Tiger his worst round as a professional in the US, and only second to his 81 at the 2002 British Open, which had 30 mph winds and rain coming down sideways. The two day total of 153 is his worst 36-hole score. We have all watched Tiger and some of his erratic tee shots, “but usually he is the magician who gets the ball up and down from everywhere," according to playing partner Stewart Cink. Well, when nothing is working for you, as Tiger found out Friday, these courses can chew you up and spit you out. We are all accustomed to seeing Tiger pounce of the courses, but it has been a bit different in his first two events back in 2010. To put things in perspective, Tiger Woods finished in front of only 10 guys in the field this week, yes 10. Next week at TPC Sawgrass, The Players Championship will not be any less difficult. Having played that course last year, Tiger will need to find all aspects of his game, especially the short game and putter or he may be at home at this time again next week
