We all know what they say about opinions and this will be the place to catch mine. I will tell everyone upfront, I am a member of two of the most annoying fan bases out there: UNC and The Dallas Cowboys. I enjoy almost all major sports, especially golfing (let me know if you want to tee it up sometime) and may throw some course reviews in here. I will give my point of view on things going on in the world of sports and please let me know what you like and dislike. Feel free to contact me at ben@southernsportsjournal.net anytime.

- Well, ½ of my Favre vs. Manning Super Bowl prediction came true. Manning and the Colts overcame a slow start to take care of the Jets. Favre and the Vikings could not hold onto the ball Sunday and lost in overtime to the Saints. The 12-men in the huddle penalty at the end of regulation lead the Vikings to try and gain some additional yardage, but a Favre interception ended this journey. The question now is was that interception Favre’s last pass? Is that how Favre wants to go out of this game? No one will know for sure..until August.
- Speaking of fumbles, Adrian Peterson may lose any shot of going down as an elite back in history if he doesn’t learn how to hang on to the ball! Sunday was his third game this season with two fumbles in a game. ELITE running backs don’t have multiple games in a season like that.

- The Pro Bowl is being played this Sunday in Miami. A couple issues with this need to be addressed very soon. While this is the first Pro Bowl in 30 years on the mainland ( and Sold Out), of the six quarterbacks originally named to the Pro Bowl, only ONE (Aaron Rodgers) is in Miami this week. Matt Schaub, Vince Young, and David Garrard are the QB’s for the AFC. When thinking about who would be QB’s in the Pro Bowl, Garrard and Young were definitely not on this list. Vince Young did not even start the season as a starter for the Titans. We need to clearly define what the Pro Bowl is and who is supposed to be playing and go from there. If players don’t want to play in the game, then maybe changes need to happen to the format. Look at the rosters of guy playing versus the guys who are not playing due to injury or Super Bowl participants and decide which rosters look better.

- Does the PGA Tour really get some attention this weekend at Torrey Pines or will that still hold off until Tiger comes back? Everyone has had to speak on Tiger this week. Ratings will not return until he comes back for the casual fan, but how about for the golf nut? Only thing that is known for sure is that Bill Haas won last week, but not sure where. Can Phil or someone else catch fire and try to keep the tour in casual conversation until he returns?

- No matter how rough or unsettling things may be in Chapel Hill, at least the boys in blue know they can go to Raleigh and right the ship if for only one night !! (That's for you Barry) Watching the game in Raleigh Tuesday evening, neither team looked very good. That is painful to say for this diehard Tarheel fan. We keep seeing glimpses of the potential, but the complete package has not been put together yet. Maybe when March rolls around, Roy and the boys can point to January 26th at the RBC Center as the turning point for this season. Tuesday’s win means nothing if they lose at home Sunday versus Virginia. Win that game, they are back to 3-3 in the conference and right in the thick of things. Lose Sunday and well that win in Raleigh did nothing but quiet a few fans on both sides down for a while. For the Pack, this was their chance to make a statement that the win last week versus Duke was not a fluke. State fans have to question coaching especially not pressuring full court against a team that has struggled with pressure all season. Each year we hear about next year's recruits are going to make the difference, but how long until the fans in Raleigh begin making noise?

- Speaking of the ACC, what a cluster this conference is this year. There is no dominant team in the conference this season. Many think while the coaches like to call it parity, it is a really mediocre year for talent in the conference. There is no one in the conference that is standing out as a potential POY. Several players have had a great performance one game and follow it up with a dud. Eight teams already have between 2-4 loses in the conference. While it should be interesting to see how things play for the remainder of the season, is there a team that can make a run deep into March in the ACC?
